you get a knock on your door telling you that you have 15 min to gather your personal belongings and evacuate your house. We have a large fire headed your way and if the wind shifts it will be at your house within minutes. It’s a really nerve racking moment when you start thinking of all of the bad things that could happen to your house and how your life could change. You always hear the question “what would you take with you if you had to evacuate your house?” Well.. Its a pretty crazy experience when you actually live that.
This is my Dad in our front yard.. This was at the beginning of the fire.. It got a lot closer to our house day by day.
picture taken on our front door step!
Watching the progression of the fire!
I looked around my apartment, each room and looked at what could be replaced and what couldn’t be. We packed up all of our photo albums and a few things and were escorted out of our house.
My car was seriously packed full of pictures and photo albums!
Andy and I climbed up on our roof to take a few pictures before we were kicked out of the house.
The Officers telling us to leave…
My dad went home one day to gather a few thing from our house and had to document everything going on at our house 🙂 My favorite is the firemen sleeping on the trampolines!
We were evacuated for a total of 3 days.. on the 3rd day a unexpected rain storm came along and helped the efforts so much that we were able to return home later that night. On the 4th day (today), there are still plenty of hot spots still burning but there have been helicopters dumping water on them all day, but even with the constant noise of the helicopters over our house, I am soooo thankful that our house wasn’t affected.
It was such a strange feeling to wonder what was going to happen to your house and belongings as the fire kept inching closer and closer to our house. I am really grateful for the efforts of our brave firemen. This has been an experience I will never forget.
